Step 2: Determine a design concept
The finite element mesh is created with an element size of 0.04 in. Working Model Concept also requires a target volume. For this part, a target volume of 30% of the initial volume is specified.
Working Model Concept allows the user to define areas of the design space that are constrained to remain in the final design. The elements on the interior of the two holes are controlled in this manner.
Working Model Concept obtained a concept represented by a new finite element mesh shown in Figure 2. VRML files may also be used to view the new concept as shown in Figure 3.

Working Model Concept may be used to explore different concept ideas. By changing the input parameters, a different concept will be obtained.
